Miraflores originated in the district of Rancho Viejo, the heart of farmlands in the Mission of Santiago. This region was once inhabited by Californian gentiles and pioneers, who developed the area through agriculture and livestock. By the second half of the 18th century, Miraflores played a significant role in the population process of the Californias, with the allocation of urban lots, cattle ranches, and farmland.
In the late 19th century, Rancho Viejo transitioned to Miraflores, officially becoming a town in 1858. The Municipality of Los Cabos recognized the Delegation of Miraflores in 1986, encompassing sub-delegations such as Boca de la Sierra, Caduaño, El Ranchito, La Calabaza, Las Casitas, and Los Frailes. The region's economic development flourished through the livestock and agriculture industries, particularly with exports of cattle, dried meat, machaca, chorizo, cheese, and piloncillo. Today, Miraflores is renowned for its organic fruit and vegetable production.
Miraflores is celebrated for its regional cuisine, preserves, and sweets, reflecting a rich culinary tradition. Artisanal trades like saddlery and carpentry have been preserved since colonial times. The community's commitment to tradition is evident in the annual Pitahaya Festival in July and the Patron Saint festivities in December, dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe.
The natural beauty of Miraflores is unparalleled, stretching from the foothills of Sierra La Laguna to the Gulf of California. The warm, generous locals are known for their hospitality and dedication to preserving their heritage. Visitors can experience the charm of this delegation, enjoying the traditions passed down through generations.
Historically, Miraflores had a robust economy, with many locals working in cane mills, producing cheese, and exporting dried meat and leather. Marine trade was centered in Los Frailes, a serene community perfect for seaside walks and watching sunrises over the Gulf of California. Carpentry, bread making, leather tanning, and saddlery are trades that have endured through the years.
Agriculture remains a cornerstone of Miraflores, with high-quality organic products exported to the United States and beyond. Pears, cherries, Saladette tomatoes, basil, lettuce, cabbage, eggplant, celery, parsley, oregano, and various spices are just some of the products grown here. At Club Ninety Six, we source much of our produce from this region, ensuring freshness and supporting local businesses.
A visit to Miraflores means being welcomed by friendly people who value their rich cultural heritage. Every corner of this delegation is a testament to the knowledge, traditions, and beliefs passed down through the years, making Miraflores an integral part of the Municipality of Los Cabos.
